Европейската народна партия (ЕНП) запазва позицията си на най-голямата политическа сила в новия Европейски парламент със 178 от общо 751 евродепутати, сочат междинните резултати след евроизборите в 28-те държави членки на 23-26 май.
На второ място остава групата "Социалисти&Демократи" със 153 места. Трети в състезанието излиза Алиансът на либералите и демократите в Европа (АЛДЕ) със 105 евродепутати, а на четвърта позиция се нареждат Зелените/Европейски свободен алианс с 69 евродепутати.
Резултатите показват значителен спад за традиционната десница и левица за сметка на либерали и зелени, отбелязва БНР. Групата на Европейските консерватори и реформисти, която бе трета по сила в предишния ЕП, вече е пета по численост с 63-ма евродепутати.
50,94% от гражданите на ЕС са упражнили правото си на глас, при избирателната активност в предишните два евровота (2009 и 2014 г.) близо 43%.
Във вторник вечерта на неформална среща на Европейския съвет в Брюксел държавните и правителствените лидери на държавите членки трябва да договорят разпределението на основните ръководни постове в ЕП, ЕК, Европейския съвет и Европейската централна банка. Страната ни се представлява от премиера Бойко Борисов.

Още в неделя вечерта след края на изборния ден лидерката на германския Християндемократически съюз (ХДС) Анегрет Крамп-Каренбауер обяви, че ЕНП е най-голямата група в Европарламента и нейният кандидат Манфред Вебер трябва да бъде следващият председател на Европейската комисия.
